Field Trips

Yesterday we went up to Glacier with the girls. We did "Trail of the Cedars". It's a short boardwalk hike (not really a hike at all) The walk is in the shade. Giant cedars loomed over us, blocking and protecting us from the elements. Under these giant cedars we found mostly ferns and lily's growing. It had beautiful green foliage, but very few flowers. Along the trail also present were weeping walls--rocks jutting out of the mountain side with streams of fresh crystal clear water seeping out. Perhaps we could have called it the Trail of Sorrows, too. The only wildlife we saw or heard was a few birds. The forest was very quiet, not an animal to be seen, yet to be sure there were many eyes peering out upon us, waiting to scurry across the forest floor.

After our trip to the Cedars we went down to Lion Lake for a camp fire and dinner. We arrived to find many others taking advantage of the beautiful weather. Robert set to work right away to get us a roaring fire going which he was desperately afraid to be tested in, yet triumphed in flying colors (one match and no lighter fluid this time). We cooked our hot dogs to a golden brown. We ate the hot dogs, chasing them down with S'mores, then we headed down to take a float in our raft. The girls, already in suits having waded into the ice cold water, were ready to go. Robert took the first jaunt across the lake and then I went with a few of the girls. I rowed us out to the middle of the lake and the girls tried their hands at paddling. We went in a circle round and round. Then we headed back to the beach. The most enjoyable part of the whole excursion was cleaning up. Robert and I worked together diligently to get our family loaded up for the trip home. I enjoyed his companionship and how it knitted our hearts together to work side-by-side.
